In the Swiss mountains

My story begins in the mountains of Switzerland. It was exactly like the cliché image: pure air, mountain tops at the horizon and a green hilly landscape everywhere around you.
My father was a general practitioner in the small farming village where I grew up. I was fascinated by his profession and loved the fact that you can help other people for a living.
The only problem was that I could not stand blood, so the logical study to take up as a teenager was psychology.

Education in Bern

I went to the University of Bern and followed the psychology degree programme aimed at adults, children and young people. My choice for that subject was a natural one, as I quickly and easily make contact with children and I felt, and still do, that the development of the young psyche is just as interesting as that of an adult.
The educational system in Switzerland is a little different from the Dutch system, as you immediately gain practical experience. This means that I started gaining work experience from the start of my studies.

And then love came into my life

It happened over the course of three days, during a holiday. I fell in love with him. And he fell in love with me. For five years, we had a long-distance relationship. He lived in the Netherlands, while I lived in Switzerland. After those five years, I took the plunge and moved to the Netherlands.
Eleven years and two children later, I can easily say that I made the right choice. That does not mean that it has always been easy. My Swiss diploma was not enough in the Netherlands. I did not speak the language and did not know anyone apart from my husband. I took the opportunity to do my studies all over again in the Netherlands, but from another perspective this time: integrative therapy. And: in Dutch.

Lifelong learning

I enjoyed learning so much that after finishing integrative therapy, I immediately took up another study: hypnotherapy. I also completed that study successfully. In the meantime, I worked in various mental health care institutions. I gained practical experience there in a wide range of subjects and learned how to apply various treatment methods.

At home with my husband and children....and a good read

When I am not working or studying, I enjoy spending time with my family. Being a mother and a wife is important to me. I also enjoy reading. I read everything I can get my hands on, so I am buried in books whenever I have the time.
